LVG Heidelberg is a state horticultural college with an integrated research station in Heidelberg within the portfolio of the Ministry for Agriculture in Baden-Württemberg. Around 50 people are working here.
In our research station we develop information for commercial growers in the field of vegetables, ornamental plants and landscaping. Another assignment is the adult education of gardeners and arborists. Every year we are training about 150 students for horticultural and arboricultural exams. In arboriculture we offer different courses. Next to typical German exams like the “Fachagrarwirt für Baumpflege und Baumsanierung” students are able to graduate in European exams like “European Tree Worker” and “European Tree Technician”. In 2002 we started with the financial help of our Ministry to develop e-learning courses and blended learning concepts for our students. From 2007 to 2009 we managed another Leonardo da Vinci project (www.european-arboriculture-online.eu). The result of this project is a multimedial online course for arborists which is available in 7 different languages.
Role in the project
LVG Heidelberg is responsible for the project management and coordination. In cooperation with our project partners our school will also be involved in creating a common PLE for arboricultural students in the context of “Climatical change and its consequences for urban trees”.
